College: Shifted to strong safety in APSU’s new 4-2-5 defensive scheme...listed No. 1 on depth chart at position entering fall...continues to be one of defensive leaders... benefited from improved defensive line and linebacker play in 2008...finished sixth on team with 43 tackles, including 29 solo stops...his 43 tackles led all defensive backs...also had 2.5 tackles for loss...tied for second on team with two interceptions, giving him five for his career... also ranked second with four pass breakups...had five games with at least four tackles... made season’s first interception against Gardner-Webb... picked up five tackles, including one for loss, against Tennessee Martin... season’s best game came at Eastern Kentucky where had a team-best nine tackles to go along with an interception and  forced fumble...registered seven tackles, including six solos, at Jacksonville State...in spring 2007, moved from cornerback to safety met with impressive results...sure-tackling defender finished second on team in tackles (63) and also in solo stops (41)...credited with 10 stops against Tennessee State....had season-high seven solo stops at Samford...also had six solo hits against Bethel and Southeast Missouri...picked off pass on Tennessee Tech’s opening drive and returned it 28 yards...also picked off pass against Eastern Kentucky and returned it 22 yards...forced fumble at Indiana State..moved from corner to free safety after 2006 season...injuries limited him early during 2006...started final five games at cornerback...ranked ninth on team in total tackles, including 20 solo stops...enjoyed outstanding game against Western Kentucky...credited with 10 tackles, including seven solo stops...also credited with two tackles for loss while forcing fumble...collected only interception against The Cumberlands...High School: Played cornerback, running back and wide receiver for the legendary Carlton Flatt, an APSU alum...All-State Super Seven as senior after earning honorable mention as junior...Personal: Health wellness promotion major...son of Ted and Debra Townsend...born June 27, 1988...age 21.
