NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Greg Walker, Austin Peay's play-by-play voice for the past 10 years, is on the road to recovery after undergoing triple bypass surgery, Wednesday, at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Walker is expected to be in the hospital for about a week after Wednesday night's surgery.
Walker, who also is the longtime host of Sports Talk, a radio talk show, and One on One, a local cable TV show, has been involved with APSU sports as either play-by-play voice or color commentator for some 30 years. He and David Loos have worked together on the Govs basketball broadcasts for the past 10 years. Walker initially stepped in as Govs play-by-play voice for former Governors Voice Bill Herndon, who coincidentally underwent bypass surgery during the 1996-97 season.
David Loos, who does play-by-play for Governors football and Lady Govs basketball, will step in as Govs play-by-play voice while Walker recovers. Van Stokes, who broadcasts Governors baseball and serves as football color analyst, will handle color work for home games, while Alaric Klinghard, who aids with Lady Govs road broadcasts and baseball broadcasts, will work color on road contests, with help from Patrick Miller, who handles halftime statistics reports.
