CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Chris Reaves, a 6-5 All-State performer at Bolivar Central High School, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Austin Peay State University.
The 180-pound wing averaged 19 points and nine rebounds per game in 2007-08 for head coach Rick Rudesill’s club that posted a 28-5 record and advanced to the Class AA state tournament.
As a junior, Reaves was selected Class AA All-State and was named to the Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee first team. In addition, he was named District 12AA most valuable player along with being chosen Region 6AA MVP.
“We believe Chris Reaves is one of the top players in the state,” APSU coach Dave Loos said. “We think he has a tremendous upside. He is a wing guard-type player who has great length; he’s a very long-armed young man.
“He has (shooting) range but he also has the ability to create a shot for himself and can get to the rim. He is really athletic and can be a real asset to the program.”
This season Reaves already has earned recognition as a Tennessee McDonald’s All-America nominee. Rick Bolus High Potential Recruiting Service has him ranked as one of the top 10 prep players in Tennessee while Tennessee Prep Hoops has him rated the 17th best player.
“Chris plays for a guy in Rick Rudesill who has had a tremendous amount of success (Bolivar won state championships in 2004 and 2005) and really knows the game and how to teach it,” Loos said. “Chris is a guy we see playing multiple positions, a two (guard) or three (wing). But more than anything he is the type young player who just makes plays.”
