Sophomore Chiamaka Obi posted a season best in the 400-meter dash at Friday's Mideast Regional in Louisville.

LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – Three Austin Peay State University track and field athletes competed, Friday, at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Mideast Regional, Friday, at Cardinal Park. However, none of the three were able to advance in their respective event.

Junior pole vaulters Carrie Burggraf and Molly Batkiewicz each posted a height of 3.81m (12-06.00) with Burggraf finishing 18th and Bartkiewicz finishing 22nd due to a tiebreaker in which Burggraf recorded fewer misses. Sophomore 400-meter specialist Chiamaka Obi posted a season-best time of 56.33 seconds in her heat and finished 17th.

“Obi did a great job getting a personal best in her first regional meet,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “She was on the outside but put herself in great position and just lost steam down the stretch. She ran the race how it was supposed to be run – I can’t complain when she has her best race in the outside lane. Molly and Carrie both had a tough region to come out of. Both cleared 12-6 but couldn’t quite get over 12-9."

Molnar expects great things from his returners next year.

“All three of these young ladies, as well as much of this year’s team, will be back next season,” said Molnar. “This was Molly and Carrie’s second regional each, and you can’t buy that kind of experience.”
