CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman center Tearra Banks, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Banks earned adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in two Lady Gov victories last week. The 6-3 freshman hit 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the field on the week, helping the Lady Govs earn a three-game road winning streak for the first time since 2005-06. It is her third OVC Freshman of the Week honor, equaling former Lady Gov Whitney Hanley’s 2008-09 total, and is the most by an OVC freshman this year.

She notched a career-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbed seven boards in the Lady Govs win at SIU Edwardsville, Monday.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior forward Will Triggs, of the men’s basketball team, notched his 1,000th career point in the Govs loss at Eastern Illinois, Saturday. Triggs has scored in double figures in each of the last six games.
  • Junior sprinter Maikea Davis, of the women’s track and field team, placed third in the 200m dash at the Niswonger Invitational, breaking the school record in the preliminaries (24.82) and again in the finals (24.57); she’s now lowered the previous indoor record by more than seven-tenths of a second in just three meets as a Lady Gov.
  • Sophomore center Chris Horton, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds for the Govs last week, recording his 9th and 10th double-double this season.
