As a junior in 2009 –
Huff was named a preseason “Player to Watch” by Baseball America… however, he made just 11 appearances in an injury-shortened campaign… was slowly making transition into designated hitter’s role and made first start as DH at Evansville, April 8, going 1-for-3 with an RBI… but season came to an end when he injured his hand while attempting to steal a base and did not play or pitch the season’s remainder… prior to injury Huff made 11 appearances but was 0-3 with 5.50 ERA… took losses in season’s first two starts as he was chased early at Lamar, Feb. 21, and against Ball State, March 1… made next start against Milwaukee, March 14, and did not earn a decision despite striking out six and walking none while surrendering just two runs in 6.1 innings as Govs lost 3-2… next three appearances came in relief until making season’s fourth start at Jacksonville State, March 28… struck out a season-high seven batters in five innings at JSU, but suffered loss as Govs were shutout, 4-0… made season’s final start against SIU Edwardsville, April 3, and again did not earn a decision despite allowing just three runs over 6.1 innings… had 10 plate appearances prior to injury and was 3-of-9 with five RBI… had two RBI as a pinch-hitter against both Middle Tennessee, April 1, and SIU Edwardsville, April 4.

As a sophomore in 2008 – Huff made 17 appearances, including 14 starts, finishing campaign with 5-6 record and 3.46 ERA with team-best 79 strikeouts in 93.2 innings pitched… posted 3-3 record and 3.05 ERA in OVC action with 45 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched… opened season as No. 2 starter, posting season’s first win against Valparaiso, Feb. 23… moved into No. 1 role for next two starts, a no-decision against Valparaiso and a loss to Bradley… struck out eight in 7.0 innings in the no-decision to Valparaiso, Feb. 29… followed that start with a relief appearance at East Tennessee… then suffered loss to Bradley, March 10, after allowing five runs in a 5-4 decision… suffered second consecutive loss to Milwaukee despite striking out seven in 6.0 innings, but allowed four runs (two earned)… suffered loss at Eastern Kentucky, March 21, despite limiting Colonels to two runs on seven hits over 7.1 innings… picked up midweek win at Memphis, March 25, after throwing 1.1 scoreless relief innings (0 H)… earned OVC’s “Pitcher of the Week” award, April 4, after throwing seven-plus scoreless innings against Morehead State, including going 6.1 innings with a no-hitter… battled with control in loss at Samford, April 12, allowing five runs and six hits over 6.2 innings… bounced back with first collegiate complete game in victory against Tennessee Tech, April 19, striking out career-high 12 batters… posted season’s ninth quality start at Southeast Missouri, April 26, but was not part of the decision… picked up victory against Tennessee-Martin, May 3, with 10th quality start and striking out six over seven innings… had another shaky outing in loss at Eastern Illinois – reminiscent of his appearance at Samford – surrendering three runs on three hits and three walks and hitting three batters… finished regular season with second straight non-quality start, going just 5.1 innings against Murray State and putting nine men on base (none scored)… pitched Govs tournament-opener against Southeast Missouri and was tagged for the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in 6.0 innings.

As a freshman in 2007 – Huff made 11 appearances, including seven starts… has a 2-3 record and 7.64 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched… opened campaign 0-2… suffered loss in relief against Cincinnati, Feb. 19, and was tagged for loss as a starter at Mississippi, March 6… recorded season’s first win in next start against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, March 11, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing only three hits while striking out three… third loss came in start against Memphis, April 18… recorded his second win, April 25, at Evansville as he allowed four runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings, but recorded a season-high six strikeouts.

Under head coach Alex Rodney, finished his senior season 5-2 in 48 innings with a 1.45 ERA and 93 strikeouts…  was named first-team Class AA All-State by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and first-team All-State Tennessee Baseball Report as well as first-team All Mid-State… also was named the District 9-AA Most Valuable Player, All District 9-AA team and All Region 5-AA team… he was a four-time All-District 9-A selection and a 2005 All-Region 5-A pick… also played football and was a two-time All-State selection.

Stephen Kirke Huff is the son of Denny Huff and Sandy Shwab… born April 5, 1988… has three older siblings: Bobby (30), Marsha (27) and Matt (25)… majoring in business management and marketing.
