As a junior transfer in 2009 –
Marshall pitched in nearly all roles for the Govs, compiling a 4-3 record and 4.60 ERA in 24 appearances… was 3-2 with 4.19 ERA in his seven starts… also made 17 relief appearances, finishing 1-1 with one save and a 5.18 ERA… made four starts in season’s first month, winning twice… recorded first APSU victory against Iowa, March 7, allowing one earned run over 5.2 innings… picked up victory in next start with one earned run over six innings against Milwaukee, March 13… suffered loss in first OVC start against Eastern Kentucky, March 22, after allowing six runs over 3.1 innings… did not start again until Southeast Missouri series, April 25, making 12 consecutive relief appearances… was hard-luck loser in Govs opener at Jacksonville State, allowing one unearned run in eighth inning… bounced back with relief victory against SIU Edwardsville, April 3, striking out four in 1.2 innings… did not allow a run in four consecutive relief appearances (seven innings) and did not surrender an earned-run over six straight relief outings (10.1 innings), striking out 11 batters in the latter span…  returned to starting role in second game of Southeast Missouri series but did not factor into decision after allowing five runs (two earned) over three innings… was tapped as Govs No. 1 starter the following week and picked up season’s fourth victory at Tennessee Martin, allowing three runs while striking out five in 6.1 innings… did not receive run support in season’s final appearance and suffered loss despite allowing just three runs over six innings and striking out four.

Played under head coach Mitch Hannahs as a pitcher for the Statesmen… as a sophomore, posted a 1-3 record, but struck out 34 in just 31 innings… as a freshman, made six appearances and recorded 13 strikeouts in 11 innings… along with fellow transfer Zach Gerler, helped lead the Statesmen to the 2007 Great Rivers Athletic Conference regular-season championship and Region XXIV tournament championship.

Richard Eric Marshall is the son of Randy and Deborah Marshall… born July 20, 1988… has a younger sister, Whitney (20)… majoring in sociology, minor in general business… played prep career at Madison Comprehensive High School.
