CLARKSVILLE—Former Austin Peay State University All-America wide receiver Harold “Red” Roberts met with the player who recently broke his Ohio Valley Conference career record for receptions, Thursday, prior to the APSU-Eastern Illinois football game.
Roberts, who caught 232 passes from 1967-70, saw his 43-year old mark broken by Erik Lora, the Panthers’ wide receiver, against Illinois State, Sept. 14. Lora now has 261 career catches, including 52 in five games this season.
Lora broke Roberts’ single-game receptions record with 21 catches against Murray State, the same OVC team Roberts had 20 receptions against in 1969.
Roberts still owns three of APSU’s Top 10 single-season marks for receptions, including the No. 2 mark of 67 in 1969. He is a member of Austin Peay’s Hall of Fame and is one of two former football Govs to his jersey (84) retired, the other being John Ogles.
