APSU post-game notes vs. Eastern Kentucky

  • This was APSU’s fifth straight road game.
  • This was the Governors’ OVC opener. They are now 10-31 all-time in OVC openers.
  • This was APSU’s second straight OVC-opening loss after winning the previous three.
  • This was APSU’s 21st straight road defeat.
  • For second straight game the Govs failed to gain a first-quarter first down.  They didn’t get their first first down until 3:42 left in the second quarter on a Tim Phillips run and then immediately got a second on a 15-yard EKU personal foul penalty.
  • APSU had 51 yards total offense in the first half, 50 on final drive, compared to 195 for EKU. APSU finished with 106 yards total offense.
  • After rushing for 155 yards against Ohio, the Govs were held to four rushing yards on nine attempts in the first half against EKU. They finished with six yards rushing on 25 attempts against EKU.
  • With 13:36 left in game, freshman Chase Dunlap ended APSU’s scoreless streak of eight quarters with his first college field goal from 30 yards out.
  • Wide receiver Darryl Clack was one of the few offensive bright spots, catching three passes for 48 yards.
  • Sophomore Omar Williams was APSU’s leading rusher with five yards on nine carries.
  • Junior punter Ben Campbell averaged 44 yards on eight punts.
  • Campbell now has 38 punts in five games. The APSU record is 82, set by Grad Wright in 1990.
  • Senior safety Leron Eaddy led the Govs’ defense with nine tackles.
  • Freshmen Roderick Owens, a cornerback,  and A.J. Gray, a linebacker, were second and third on the team in tackles with seven and six, respectively.
