CLARKSVILLE – A pair of Lady Govs advanced to the semifinals after Day One at the Austin Peay Fall Open, Friday, on the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
Junior Ornella Di Salvo advanced to the semifinals in Flight A with a 6-3, 6-1 against Southeast Missouri’s Valeriia Nagovitcina, while junior Jovana Karac knocked off Western Kentucky’s Emily Pryzstawski, 6-5, 4-6, 10-6 to advance to the semifinals Flight C.
Senior Andra Cornea advanced to the quarterfinals in Flight A, defeating Southeast Missouri’s Valeriia Kashina (4-6, 6-2, 10-8) before falling to Western Kentucky’s Monta Reinfelde (6-0, 6-2). She and Di Salvo knocked off Western Kentucky’s Pryzstawski and Morgan Freeman, 6-1, in the opening round of doubles competition.
Karac and junior Vanessa Tavares also advanced in the doubles round, defeating Western Kentucky’s Alex Crofford and Carolina Barboza, 6-4.
Play continues at the Fall Open beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday. Both outdoor and indoor courts will be in use, pending weather conditions.
