CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team closes out the regular season with a match against Jacksonville State, 10 a.m., Sunday, at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
Austin Peay has won five of its last six matches, ascending to a 9-11 overall mark and 5-4 in the OVC. After losing five in a row in a disastrous start, the Lady Govs have righted the ship and can clinch their OVC Tournament berth with a victory, Sunday.
Junior Andra Cornea, the elder statesman of the Lady Govs squad, has won three straight matches and is 8-2 in her last 10. Sophomore Alison Carre also has won three in a row, and teams with classmate Vanessa Tavares to form a doubles pairing that has gone 11-6 this season, mostly at No. 2 doubles.
Jacksonville State (12-10, 6-2 OVC) is just 3-7 away from home in 2013 and haven’t been on the road since a March 30 win at Morehead State. Raisa Guasti, the Gamecocks No. 1, is 13-9 this season and has teamed with Raphaela Lima for an 11-6 No. 1 doubles mark. However, Guasti is just 4-6 away from home in singles this season.
