CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Seeking a turnaround to its 1-6 start, Austin Peay State University women's tennis team travels to Northern Kentucky for an 11 a.m., Saturday, matchup at Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
After starting the season 0-5 in singles, sophomore Alison Carre has stepped her game up over the last few matches. She's won three straight, including a 6-3, 6-2 dispatching of Lipscomb's Deahna Welcher, Tuesday.
The Lady Govs doubles play has been stellar of late. Austin Peay has won the doubles point in the last three matches, with Carre and sophomore Vanessa Tavares going undefeated as a duo, along with junior Andra Cornea and sophomore Ornella Di Salvo's perfect mark.
The Norse have begun their Division I era with four straight losses, three of them coming via sweeps. Junior Marta Romeo has Northern Kentucky's lone singles victory this season, a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 match against Western Kentucky's McKinley Mason in No. 2 singles, Feb. 16.
This Austin Peay's lone road trip for nearly a month of action. The Lady Govs played their last three at home, and will return to the Governors Tennis Center for matches against Ohio Valley Conference foes Eastern Kentucky (March 16), Morehead State (March 17) and Northern Iowa (March 19).
