CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Malik Tabet, Austin Peay State University men and women's tennis coach for the past three years, has announced his resignation because of "personal reasons."
Tabet came to Austin Peay after spending five seasons at Indiana State, coaching the women (five seasons) and the men (one). He led the Lady Govs to 2010 Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship and their first NCAA tournament championship. The Lady Govs qualified for the OVC tournament in each of his three seasons as head coach.
He also led the Governors tennis team to three consecutive tournament appearances, including a No. 2 seed this past.
Tabet coached a pair of OVC Players of the Year. Vanja Tomic, a three-time first-team All-OVC selection, was named 2010 Women's Player of the Year while junior Sean Bailey earned that honor on the men's side this past season.
The men's team had no seniors in 2011-12, including All-OVC performers Bailey and junior Jasmin Ademovic, while the women's side had only one senior-Tomic-and return rising sophomore Alison Carre, a first-team All-OVC choice this spring.
Austin Peay will begin an immediate search to find a replacement.
