Despite doubles win, Lady Govs tennis falls to Racers

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's tennis team lost, 4-3, to Murray State, Thursday at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.

It was the Lady Govs second Ohio Valley Conference loss in three matches as well as their season's first loss when winning the doubles point. Murray State, meanwhile, improved to 8-7 overall with a 3-0 OVC mark.

Austin Peay (6-12; 3-2 OVC) continued to get strong play from the top of the lineup as senior Vanja Tomic won at No. 1 singles and freshman Alison Carre won at No. 3 singles - both players improving to 5-0 in OVC play. The Lady Govs, however, lost four singles matches, including two matches in three sets. Ornella Di Salvo lost a three-set match at No. 2 singles and Jovana Karak lost in three sets at No. 6.

The doubles point came after wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. Tomic and Carre won, 8-5, while Di Salvo and Andra Cornea won their fourth-straight match at No. 2 doubles.

Austin Peay has four OVC matches left, beginning with a April 6 match against Tennessee State.
