CLARKSVILLE - Junior Sean Bailey, of the Austin Peay State University men's tennis team, was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Week, the league office announced, Wednesday.
Bailey moved to the No. 1 singles position, Feb. 19, when the Govs played at No. 71 Georgia State. After falling to the Panthers, Bailey has since won four-straight at the top position and five-straight overall.
"Sean could be the player of the week every week out," head coach Malik Tabet said. "What's most impressive about Sean is that he is consistently beating players that are better than him on paper. That's a credit to the work he puts in every day."
His current streak includes a win against No. 42 South Alabama's Romain Bocaert in a second-set tiebreak, Bailey received the league's weekly award for a pair of OVC wins against Murray State and SIU Edwardsville.
Over the weekend, Bailey went 3-1 overall, counting a pair of singles wins and a No. 1 doubles win against Murray State. A dominant doubles player during his first two seasons, Bailey has a 5-6 mark at No. 1 doubles with new teammate Dimitar Ristovski.
