Austin Peay State University’s Athletic Academic Services is responsible for monitoring the eligibility and academic progress for the university’s 300 student-athletes. Services provided are study hall, managing the textbook scholarship program, weekly academic meetings, tutoring, grade reporting, personal and career counseling and academic advising and counseling. The office is also responsible for assisting student-athletes with summer school and fifth-year funding requests.
Athletic Academic Services moved to the second floor of the Dunn Center in August 2006, with the opening of the Dr. Phil Roe Athletic Academic Center. The center contains a computer lab, study room, tutoring room, book storage room, a reception area and an office for the Athletic Academic Coordinator. Student-athletes use the center to complete weekly study hall requirements, to meet with tutors and athletic advisors.
Over the past few years, student-athletes have continued to excel in the classroom. The Spring 2008 semester was one of the most successful semesters in the department’s history. Student-athletes earned the highest recorded Athletic Department GPA (2.909) and 161 student-athletes (56.7) earned a 3.0 or higher for the semester. This includes 20 student-athletes who posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester.
