CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University women's track and field team heads east to Johnson City for the 35th annual Niswonger Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State. The two-day event begins 10 a.m., Friday, on the David E. Walker Track and Gentry Field.

The event has developed a deep field over the years, and the 2013 field is no exception. More than 60 collegiate squads will be represented at the meet, including Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee as well as Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State and Tennessee Tech.

Having built a solid foundation for this season's squad, head coach Doug Molnar is expecting to see improved performances from this weekend's meet. Lady Gov athletes already have accrued 16 personal-bests through the season's first three meets and look to build on that this weekend.

"This is a good meet for us," Molnar said. "Lots of quality teams will be here. We're in a little better shape now with a week of practice out of the way, so we're looking for better marks."

Senior Chantelle Grey heads into the weekend as the OVC's women's track Co-Athlete of the Week. She leads the OVC in the 800m run after her 2:15.37 mark at last week's Blazer Invite, where she just barely missed winning the entire 47-woman field.

Grey and the relay team of freshmen Breigh Jones and Kymmalett Ross and junior Taelor Slaughter own the second-best 4x400m relay mark in the conference after last week's 3:54.09 run.

"We expected Ross and Jones to come in and be a big part of the program right away," Molnar said. "They haven't disappointed us, and they continue to get better."

Senior Jasmine Foster remains three feet (45' 4.5"; 13.83m) behind conference-leading Courtney Gapelu of Southeast Missouri in the shot put. Foster, a Johnson City native who transferred to Austin Peay for her senior season after attending ETSU for three seasons, looks forward to returning home for one final collegiate meet.
